United Premier Soccer League Announces Real New York FC as Northeast Expansion Team

October 30, 2018 – Los Angeles – The United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) is excited to announce Real New York FC as a new member starting with the 2019 Spring Season.

Based in Queens (N.Y.), Real New York FC will begin play in the UPSL Pro Premier Northeast Conference.

United Premier Soccer League National Director Paul Lapointe said, "We are pleased to welcome Real New York FC to the UPSL. Having a team in New York City has been a major goal for a lot of American soccer leagues over the years, but it takes a little digging to find out that the Pro Development and amateur scene has been thriving in NYC for more for than a century. Real New York FC is breaking ground for the UPSL in NYC, and we're excited for the possibilities ahead. We wish Calvin Salmon and Real New York FC the best as it prepares for the 2019 Spring Season."

Calvin Salmon is President and Executive Director of Coaching for Real New York FC. A native of Jamaica, Salmon captained the New York, N.Y.-based Queensborough College men's soccer team during his third and final season in 1981, and later coached the program to a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 15 championship in 1999. Salmon, a mechanical engineer by trade, currently holds a USSF National 'A' coaching license and a NSCAA Director of Coaching certificate.

Real New York FC President Calvin Salmon said, "Our goal has always been to create a Pro Development team that will benefit the people of Queens, N.Y., community, because a lot of the times these young, talented players don't get the chance. Well now they have a chance with us where they didn't before. We're doing this to provide the opportunity for the Inner City youths and young adults to develop their natural football talents so that they can play in college or play at the professional level."

Real New York FC has participated in the Long Island Soccer Football League (LISFL) since 2014, and was the league's 2014-'15 Division II champion.

The club also features a growing youth academy that was a USASA under-23 National Cup finalist in 2015, and recently saw its under-17 boys team win the 2018 NYC Cup Showcase and the 2018 Toyota Copita Alianza tournaments.

Lloyd Matthew is the team's Assistant Coach. Ryan Smith currently serves as Head Coach for the club's u15 & u16 boys teams. Michele Salmon is Club Treasurer and Danielle Salmon is Club Secretary. Samora Wright is Director of Marketing. Nicholi Hibbert is Director of Media.

The club is finalizing its venue options in compliance with the UPSL's Minimum Standards, and will soon announce upcoming tryout dates and game schedule.
