January 14, 2019 – Los Angeles – The United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) is pleased to welcome Astoria Knights FC as a new member starting with the 2019 Spring Season.

Based in Queens (N.Y.), Astoria Knights Football Club will begin UPSL play in the Northeast Conference, and is finalizing its venue options in compliance with UPSL's Minimum Standards.

United Premier Soccer League Eastern Director Jim Antonakas said, "This is a great day for soccer in Queens, N.Y.! With new clubs with the caliber of Astoria Knights FC joining the new UPSL Championship tier in the Northeast Conference we are on the right path to creating a very strong Promotion/Relegation system on the East Coast as UPSL continues to implement its model across America. Best of luck to Darnell Olivere and the Astoria Knights FC front office in its preparation for the Spring season."

Darnell Olivere, 29, is Owner and President of Astoria Knights Football Club. A native of Queens (N.Y.), Olivere played collegiate soccer at Elmhurst (N.Y.)'s Vaughn College (USCAA), and the Marine Corps Camp Pendleton varsity team. Astoria Knights FC Owner and President Darnell Olivere said, "We really believe in the UPSL's Promotion/Relegation model and we look at the UPSL like, 'This is our league,' (and) I feel like we can do a better thing here. We're going to run academies at five different sites, with the main one in Queens. We've all come together on this idea and we're all moving forward on this idea. We feel like Queens needs a soccer team."

Ahkeem Bailey is Chief Operating Officer for Astoria Knights FC. Jovan Gonzalez is Vice President of Operations and Communications, Wole Barnard is Director of Public Relations and Sponsorships, and Dexter Phillips is Event and Equipment Coordinator.
